General Information

In North Carolina the Secretary of State regulates and defines Notary Public policy. Anyone wishing to become a notary must meet the requirements established by N.C. General Statute 10-B, attend and pass a course at a Community College, and be administered an oath in the Register of Deeds office.

Notary oaths are administered in our office from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays. No appointment is necessary. The fee is $10.00 cash, money order, or certified check (no personal checks). If you have any questions call 910-253-2430 or toll free 877-625-9310.

Please visit the Secretary of State's Notary webpage for more information on how to become a notary, notary laws, forms, and contact information.
